Open Studios Weekend Oct 5/6/7th 2018

It’s time for us to open our studio doors to the public once again, as part of the Rossendale Art Trail.

A great opportunity to meet artists in their work spaces and buy art from their studios.

I’ll be exhibiting some small oil paintings, like the ones below, and giving another airing to the ink drawings of Flora and Fauna that formed part of a recent exhibition “Home and Away”.

Prices from £100 for ink drawings and £500 for small oils.

Liam Spencer – Home and Away. Exhibition opening.

You are invited to the opening of an exhibition by Liam Spencer.

Home and Away. Paintings and drawings of Rossendale and beyond.

Opening event Saturday 21st April 2018 at 2 pm at the Whitaker, Rossendale.

(Gallery will be open from 9.30am). All work is for sale.

Ink Drawings – Home

Paintings and ink drawings exploring Liam’s home patch of Rossendale in Lancashire, alongside work from overseas including New York, Nepal and Australia.

Featured is a piece entitled “A Rossendale Compendium”, a large compilation of small ink drawings cataloguing the flora, fauna and landmarks that the artist has “collected” on his travels throughout the borough. It is intended to complement the Whitaker’s typically Victorian collection of natural history. Other drawings have been made as direct responses to the museum’s cabinets of curiosities.

The Whitaker (previously Rossendale Museum & Art Gallery) is set in a beautiful park in Rawtenstall at the centre of the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire. It has a great cafe and bar.

Exhibition runs 21st April-15th June 2018. Weds-Sun 9.30-5pm

Season’s greetings and a date for your diary

Happy Christmas and best wishes for 2018!

I’m exhibiting at The Whitaker in Rawtenstall next year,  with an opening on Saturday 21st April 2018.

Formerly Rossendale Museum & Art Gallery, The Whitaker is set in a beautiful park at the centre of the Rossendale Valley, Lancashire. Having come close to closure, it is now run as a ‘not-for-profit’ community organisation and in addition to housing the gallery and museum collection, it has become a vibrant cultural centre supporting various community groups, live music, a film club and a great cafe and bar.

As part of the exhibition I’ve been putting together my own collection of small ink drawings, a sort of “Rossendale Compendium”. Mostly fauna, some flora and some significant landscapes and landmarks.

I’ve also been having fun drawing some of the objects in the collection and some of the – frankly scary – stuffed animals!

More details to follow in the New Year.
