The Independent newspaper is giving away free prints of paintings of Manchester by Liam Spencer all next week in their North West edition (Granada Region). The first will be included in Saturday’s paper, 1st November 2008, and there will be a different print included each day for the rest of the week until Friday 7th.
The prints have been published by Wendy J Levy Contemporary Art Ltd.

Buy Art Fair in Manchester 9-12 October 2008

I’ll be exhibiting paintings and drawings at the fair with Wendy Levy. The aforementioned Dr MarkTurner will be lending three large paintings of mine for “A Collector’s Exhibition”.

Hi folks.
It’s been all quiet on the exhibiting front for me since the Istanbul show, but over the last couple of months I’ve been involved in helping to select work for an exhibition by Ray Lowry at the See Gallery in Crawshawbooth, Rossendale.
Ray is a fellow inhabitant of Rossendale, and famously designed the iconic “London Calling” album cover for the Clash after accompanying them on their American tours as “artist in Residence” in the 1970’s.
He’s probably best known for the cartoons which he contributed to publications such as Punch and the New Musical Express in the 1970’s and eighties.
What is not well known however, is that in addition to his design and cartoon work, Ray is also a prolific painter, and his oil paintings include cityscapes of Manchester as well as more recent essays in abstraction and pop art.
This exhibition brings all aspects of his work together for the first time, including paintings and drawings from the Clash tour, and original artworks for a new book about Eddie Cochrane and Gene Vincent.
Most of the work is for sale, and prices range from as little as £30 for original cartoon strips, to around £300 for the oil paintings. (No I’m not on commission in case you’re wondering!)

The exhibition begins on Friday 12th September with an invitation only viewing. There should be some live outdoor music from the Crimpolenes, (punk/new wave covers), if we can find a way of keeping the English summer off the amps!

The Uefa Cup final took place at the City of Manchester Stadium on 14th May 2008, between Glasgow Rangers and FC Zenit St. Petersburg. The photographs show some of the applications of the artwork – at the stadium, in the city centre and at related events – which I produced for the event.
