Like many publicly funded art spaces, Castlefield Gallery is going through a difficult period at the moment after withdrawal of Arts Council England revenue funding. In order to address the shortfall, the Castlefield is organising a fund raising auction which includes a diverse selection of work, ranging from Peter Saville’s artwork for the seminal Joy Division album Unknown Pleasures to pieces by Harry Hill, David Shrigley and myself.
The Castlefield was a very important part of my life as a young graduate, and through involvment with the exhibitions committee got to meet some of the country’s leading artists. I fulfilled many different roles at Castlefield over a period of over twenty years, including invigilator, chairman of the board of trustees, and even book keeper at one point!
This is a great opportunity to aquire a piece of art work and support a wonderful Manchester institution. There’s an online auction followed by a live event on Weds 30th May 2012. All the information you need can be found here: http://www.castlefieldgallery.co.uk/ or at Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Castlefield-Gallery/47570141379
The piece I have in the auction can be seen below.
