UEFA Cup Final Manchester 2008

Late in 2007, I was asked to produce some paintings for use by UEFA for the UEFA cup final at the City of Manchester Stadium on the 14th May 2008.

3 paintings and a series of ink drawings were produced and are being used for a variety of applications: as backdrops for events, ticket design, UEFA website, press packs etc. The picture shows myself and Dennis Law, the UEFA Cup ambasador at the launch event.

The Guardian Guide

The following review of my exhibition at Huyton appeared in the Guardian Guide on Saturday February 16th.

Liam Spencer Huyton

The Manchester impressionist Liam Spencer shows recent paintings of his beloved north-west. This shouldn’t work, but it does: borrowing the flamboyancy of 19th century impressionism from the sun-drenched landscapes of southern France and adapting it to the streets of Manchester and Merseyside. A backstreet carwash, a concrete flyover, any old cul-de-sac: Spencer imbues them all with an atmospheric vibrancy that demonstrates that impressionism remains a wonderfully evocative way of apprehending the world.
